COMING SOON (one of these days) Details about our newest acquisition, a 7' 3" English Long Case Clock from about 1850, made by Armstrong of York, England.
Seth Thomas No. 19 Regulator It was our honor to restore this rare and valuable clock to its original condition. Although it was never abused, this clock had sustained a fall at some point in its life. The finial and its supporting base on the clock's proper bottom left were loose. The bottom glass panel on that same side was missing, supposing that it too was broken in the fall and subsequently removed. A portion of that glass panel's trim was missing and another portion was off and found inside the clock's case. This highly accurate Seth Thomas model dates from 1886 to 1913. In particular, this timepiece was produced in 1910 and was hanging in a Masonic lodge in Pennsylvania. The exact date of its acquisition by the lodge is unknown, without researching the lodge's minutes from the post Civil War through the pre World War I period. But it was presented to the lodge by the family of William G. Taylor, Past Master of Chester Lodge #236, in commemoration of his life of service, both to the lodge and our country. In addition to this clock being prominently displayed on the west wall of the lodge room, it has a brass dedication plate and exhibits William Taylor's Past Master's jewel, Masonic watch fob, and his Army of the Republic Veteran Medal bestowed upon him for his service to our country in The War Between The States. At this time (2006), this beautiful clock's appraised value is estimated at $32,500.00. Understandably, its value is priceless to Chester Lodge. The pictures below detail its condition both before and after the restoration. Please note that case restoration was foregone at this time.
